Revolutionary tapping concept |
|   |
| Tapping Vehicles with a crucible capacity of 13 ton aluminium are under development at HMR Hydeq. The main principle in the new system is that the crucible is placed horizontal on the length-axis, not vertical as they are today.

Because of the light weighing chassis and lifting device structure, the total weight is as low as approximately 36 ton. The 3 axles will keep the axles load below 15 ton, with 4 axles the axle load will be below 11 ton. The new lifting device enables the positioning of the tapping tube to the correct angle at all times. In addition to this movement there is a small horizontal movement. The construction also reduces the demand for space between the pot and the wall, and there is no need for support legs.

 | | Live test of the prototype |
A prototype of this new revolutionary tapping concept was live tested during years 2003-2005 in one of the smelters in Norway. The test has confirmed the safe, effective and easy to use design. The new lifting device, which moves the crucible at the same angle as the tapping tube, really proved its benefits in practice. Positioning for tapping is now confirmed to be easy and quick. One of the most challenging elements in this solution - the sealing and lining system - proved that it can cope with the rough working conditions in the tapping crucible.

Research and development, the will and ability to break fresh ground, has brought HMR Hydeq where they are today. It is therefore natural and important that HMR Hydeq looks one step ahead. In a sketch book representing visions for the future, there are vehicles that can handle 14-19 ton of aluminium.
